Chinese New Year For Goodnight
Scholars
“Glimpse Into The Wonders of China”
The Goodnight Scholar Program at NC State invited CI to provide a workshop about Chinese
New Year and Chinese culture. On the evening of February 4th, about 20 scholars attended
the workshop and enjoyed a delicious Chinese dinner. Staffs from CI showed a Chinese culture
video to the scholars, after which Chinese New Year history and traditions were discussed.
CI’s staffs taught students to speak Chinese New Year greetings. During activity time, CI staffs
demonstrated how to make red envelopes and write Chinese calligraphy. One student named
William wrote a Chinese poem “Min Nong” with brush and ink, which amazed both scholars and
CI staffs present. After that, students put their writings into the red envelopes they made and
gave to their friends. This event was the first collaboration between the Goodnight Scholars
Program and CI. Both sides enjoyed the event and are looking forward to future collaborations.
