HSK/HSKK Testing
On February 21st, thirteen students from Heritage High School took the HSK (level 3) test. Ms. Wenching Liu,
Heritage’s Chinese teacher, said that students wanted to assess their personal growth in Chinese by taking this test.
These thirteen students were no strangers to the HSK as all have previously taken HSK level 1 and level 2. To excel on
HSK level 3, many had been practicing and preparing since last summer. Savannah, a HSK test taker and a finalist for the
5th Annual NC Chinese Language Speech Contest, said she wanted to take the HSK as practice for the speech contest
finals. Many of the students took the HSK as a necessary step towards applying for the CI Scholarship. Our CI was happy
to see this because we’ve been working with local teachers to encourage students to take the HSK and apply for the CI
Scholarship. To adjust and accommodate local test cultures, our CI developed a special HSK format where test proctors
take the test to different school to encourage test participation.

参加此次考试的学生已是
“身经百战”
——都参加过HSK1级和2级的考试
。有些学生为了能考出好成绩，
从去年暑假就开始积
极准备。还有一部分学生是为了申请孔子学院奖学金从而能获得在中国学习的机会而参加的。考生中有一位叫Savanaah的女孩
，她
顺利入围了北卡第五届中文演讲大赛决赛。
为了能在决赛中有好的发挥
，她希望借HSK考试给自己练练兵。
虽然申请孔院奖学金只
需要2级证书
，但为了能在竞争中更有优势，他们毫不犹豫报名参加了更高等级的考试
。
近年来，随着汉语学习在各国的不断升温
，越来越多的美国学生愿意参加HSK考试来检验自己的水平，获取更多的机会。
