CI NEWS SPRING2014 003 MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTORS For the first half of 2014, our CI organized 15 language and cultural events, influencing nearly 10,000 people. Language classes were expanded to the local community as we offered the first elementary after-school programs. The Chinese teacher training workshop attracted the largest number of local teacher participants. The growth in our numbers and influence showcase the growing role that CI has in sharing Chinese language and culture and connecting Chinese teachers and associations across North Carolina. 北卡州大孔院2014年度上半年共组织各种文化活动15场，活动影响人数达到近万人。这些活动既有立足州大的汉语及文化推广活动，也有深入社区和本土学校的文化宣传，既有面向大学生、成年人进行的语言教学、文化介绍，也有针对小学生开展的课后项目，还有专为本土教师筹划的培训活动。通过这些活动，州大孔院进一步扩大了自己在北卡地区的知名度及影响力，越来越成为北卡地区汉语教学及文化推广方面的领军人物，成为团结和凝聚本土汉语教师和汉语组织的核心力量，北卡州大孔院必将在今后的汉语教学和文化推广活动中发挥更为强有力的作用。 The “Confucius Institute Star Employee Award” will be awarded to one NC State CI employee each semester for their exemplary effort and dedication to increase Chinese language and culture programs at NC State. The Award recipient will be determined by the CI Directors and will be honored at the end of the semester. Yang Yang is the award recipient for Spring 2014. She has been working with us since August 2012. Since her time at NC State she had demonstrated exceptional leadership and organization skills. She expanded the “Doing Business in China Class” for Skema students and developed the curriculum to also offer the class to business professionals from the community. Yang has organized the Chinese language competition for 2 years and during that time have increased participation, organization and connection with Chinese language teachers. She recommended six Chinese writings from K-12 schools in North Carolina to enter into the “2012 Confucius Institute Cup” sponsored by Hanban and 2 of the entries received awards. She organized a new project “A Bite of China” where she invited famous chefs from China to come to our CI at NC State and also our Confucius Classroom at Sanford; over 500 people attended the event. She has also increased awareness of our HSK and Chinese language competition, by connecting with school Principals and teachers in North Carolina. She has worked hard to increase CI awareness in the community through marketing and news reports. Yang Yang is also extremely organized and makes sure that all members are aware of their specific duties for each event. CI STAR EMPLOYEE Spring 2014 Ms. Yang Yang “北卡州大孔子学院明星教职员奖” 是北卡州大孔院新设立的旨在鼓励每学期在汉语及中国文化推广方面付出巨大努力并取得突出成果的孔院教师及员工的奖项。获奖者由孔院中、美方院长共同商议决定, 并在每学期末予以颁发. 杨阳老师是2014年度春季学期该奖项的获奖教师。自2012年9月来到北卡，她一直兢兢业业和我们并肩工作。在北卡孔院工作期间，她表现出了杰出的领导和组织能力。她为SKEMA学生开设了” 经商在中国” 课程，设计了针对经济领域专业人士的课程大纲。她筹划、组织了两届全北卡中文大赛。通过积极的宣传、沟通，她极大地促进了大赛参与人数和规模的扩大，建立起与各校中文教师的紧密联系。2012年，她从K-12公立学校中推
