Start Confucius Institute Classes, Spring 2012
For the Spring 2012 semester, we had 48 students studying Chinese language and culture at our CI. We taught 40 NC State students for-credit Chinese Lab class.
This semester, aside from the four levels of Chinese language classes, we offered a Chinese Characters( Hanzi) class for the first time to promote better understanding of the deeper meaning of the Chinese lan-
guage. We also continued to offer a variety of Chinese culture courses including Business Chinese, Chinese Idioms and Stories, Sightseeing and Traveling in China, and Chinese Food.

汉语语言和中国文化课程 。 40 位
北卡州大学生和 48 位社会各界人 士参加了课程的学习 。 除此之外, 为了促进学生更好地理解汉语 的深层含义, 本学期孔子学院还 新开设了一门汉字课 。 另外, 孔 子学院继续提供各种中国文化课 程, 包括商务汉语 、 中国成语故 事 、 中国观光旅游与中国美食课 程 。

CSSFA Chinese New Year Gala
On January 23, 2012, CI at NC State co-organized the Chinese New Year Gala with the Chinese Students and Scholars F r i e n d s h i p A s s o c i a t i o n( CSSFA). More than 500 students and faculties attended this Spring Festival show. For the first time, Confucius Institute’ s students as well as students from Saint Augustine’ s College, where a Confucius Classroom is located, were invited to give Chinese New Year greetings on stage. Those enthusiastic students also sang a song to celebrate and welcome the year of the Dragon. Their performances wowed audiences as they demonstrated that with persistence learning Chinese is both enjoyable and rewarding.

了中国新年晚会 。 500 多位师生参 加了这次春节晚会 。 孔子学院的学 生和圣奥古斯丁学院孔子课堂的学 生第一次被邀请来春节晚会表演, 给大家拜年 。 这些热情的学生还为 大家唱起了中文歌欢庆龙年到来 。 他们的表演令观众拍手叫绝, 同时 也向观众展示了坚持学习中文是很 快乐和有意义的 。

Shanxi University Performing Troupe Visit
On January 31 – February 1, 2012, a delegation of 26 performers from Shanxi University visited NC State. This performance was a celebration of the Chinese New Year and demonstrated elements of Chinese and local Shanxi culture. The celebration performed at NC State’ s Confucius Classroom, Central Carolina Community College. More than 600 people from the community attended the event, including CCCC President Dr. Bud Marchant, and Mayor Cornelia Olive.
