Special Initiative
in 2013 CI took an initiative to
thank local Chinese teachers for their hard work & support for CI’s programs!
During October and November, CI teachers Yang Yang and Dr. Tang Xiaozhong
visited North Carolina Heritage High School, Wake Forest University, Enloe High
School, Chapel Hill High School, Carrboro High School, NCSSM and Raleigh Charter
High School to recognize, in the presence of their principals, their Chinese teachers for
their contributions and accomplishments to the 2013 NC Chinese Language Contests.
During these visits we awarded them certificates of recognition and Hanban books
worth a total of $8,000. Dr. Tang gave a workshop on the HSK test and CI scholarships
and answered related questions from teachers and students. The Chinese Program
Director of Wake Forest University, Professor Shi, wanted to cooperate with CI for
future language and culture projects and Enloe High School plans to send over 20
students to take the HSK test in next March. These visits to local schools have helped
our CI to integrate into the K-16 public education system, established relations with
school officials, shared resources with Chinese teachers, and explored opportunites to
extend students’ academic and career possibilities. This event was a success, winning
support from school administrations and coverage from local press.
