Fall 2013 CI Courses
For Fall 2013, CI’s Dr. Tang Xiaozhong taught another course for the
Encore program on NC State Campus. Following last fall’s “A Glimpse into
the Wonders of China” course, this “Modern China: A Citizen’s Perspective”
course also sold out with 58 students attending all five sessions. Encore
students were able to get an insider’s perspective about modern China
from a visiting scholar.
Five topics were addressed in this course: Growth of the Chinese
economy, focusing on “Made in China” and the impact of the world
financial crisis on the Chinese economy. The Chinese political system, how it
operates, and the advantages and disadvantages of the system. The impact
of the Three Gorges Dam, including the efforts made by the government
and the local people, the positive influences on the life and economy, as
well as the ecological impacts. Tibet -- the historical background and the
Chinese government policy. Chinese geographic wonders.
