7 London Mozfest How did RSA House help Mozilla run 31 events over six days? rief We hired most of the RSA’s public space and turned it into “Mozfest House” for the week. Mozfest House is a central London venue that extends Mozfest into a week-long festival. Mozfest connects all those people wanting to build a healthy internet globally. From 22-26 October, Mozfest participants were invited to dig deeper into their work, trade ideas, swap code, and build solutions. Mozfest House features films, workshops, conferences, and talks, all focusing on Internet health and showcasing the diversity of the Mozilla network. We also offer a co-working space for those participating during the week or at the festival. Organisers used the space on the Saturday for our end of week party. There were over 1,000 people in the space over the week with events from six people up to 180, and over 300 at the party. What went on? A large range of talks, meet ups, creative workshops, films and conferences - all the events were different, and we used the various spaces throughout the Client: Mozilla Event: teams often had excellent suggestions for helping with logistics and making suitable amendments. 4. We felt we had an excellent partnership with all the RSA team and that we worked well together to help each other throughout the week. Mozfest Date: 22–26 October 2018 Venue: RSA House Number of guests: 1,000+ RSA to provide a bespoke environment for each piece. Set ups varied from chair seating to tables and chairs for more hands-on, creative work. Challenges With 31 events over six days, there are always changes and adaptations required however much you plan. These were overcome in a number of ways: 1. The RSA understood our events and how we worked from the experience in 2017 2. We understood the spaces better 3. The RSA was very accommodating to change and last-minute tweaks and amendments which in turn made everything far less of a challenge. The RSA was also very pro-active in asking to meet with us regularly and discuss forthcoming events to double check the specifications - the www.conference-news.co.uk Client comment: Sarah Allen, events and training executive director of Mozfest: “When we were searching for a venue for Mozfest House, we wanted a building that felt like a surprising yet comfortable home for a technology festival. One that carried the history of London and yet felt modern at the same time. The RSA was this and more. Our participants loved the heritage and the beauty of the venue which was reflected so well in the rooms that hosted unconferences, film nights, and workshops all exploring new technologies and Internet health. The building allowed us to expand across the three floors during the day as our events and participant numbers grew, and still feel intimate for the smaller night talks and social events. The team is incredible, really friendly, professional and very supportive.” “Our participants loved the heritage and the beauty of the venue”
