Client: Cambridge Nanomaterials Technology Ltd Event: Open Day, Workshop and Exhibition Delegates: 40 Venue: Murray Edwards College Date: 30 January 2020 The power of PowerPoint 5 Academic Technology Venues Murray Edwards College, Cambridge, hosted a major technology client Background Cambridge Nanomaterials Technology (CNT) Ltd is a nanomaterials innovation, management and technology consulting company based in Cambridge. It was founded in 2009 by Dr Bojan Boskovic, CEO, who has more than 15 years of experience working in industry and academia with carbon nanomaterials. Events organised by CNT aim to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial applications of nanomaterials, by bringing together technology developers and end-users. Brief Mónica Spreadbury, from CNT approached Meet Cambridge for assistance with finding a venue for a one-day event consisting of an Open Day, Workshop and Exhibition. She said: “This particular event was related to an Innovate UK funded project, UltraMAT. The main objective was to disseminate the project results to a wider audience and support further exploitation of project results. We wanted to give our guests a Cambridge experience so it was important to us that this event should be held in one of the Colleges. Solution “We chose Murray Edwards College; the contemporary spaces were perfect and provided an excellent backdrop to the content of the event. The venue is in a great location, close to the city centre and with easy access; the free on-site parking was a bonus! We situated the whole event in the College’s Kaetsu Centre, which meant that everything was contained in one space. From an organisers point of view, logistically, this was such a perk as all spaces linked to one another and the whole event flowed perfectly. We had a small challenge when one of our exhibitors arrived with a very heavy item, but the College team were quick to source the right equipment for transportation to the exhibition space and our exhibitors gave us great feedback on the facilities and the service. “The purpose of the event was to share our results with our project partners, experts, developers and end-users, so a face-to-face meeting is imperative and hosting the event in the conducive environment of a Cambridge Colleges certainly contributed to its success. We have www.conference-news.co.uk already had feedback from project planners who established contacts at the event. This will undoubtedly lead to further discussions and new collaborations which will inevitably speed up commercialisation of advanced materials in sectors such as automotive and aerospace. Testimonial “We have been using Meet Cambridge for few years; the service we have received has always been excellent and it keeps on improving. This was our first experience of Murray Edwards College, but it won’t be our last one as we are already planning another event there this year. The whole team at the College were really helpful, before, during and after our event. They helped us to run a smooth, successful Open Day and were very accommodating to our needs.”
