175 AND COUNTING

Conference News chats to Searcys about the celebrations as the business celebrates 175 years of trading
Conference News : What ’ s the history of Searcys ? What does the 175 milestone mean for you ?
Searcys : First established as an events caterer in 1847 , Searcys is proud to be one of the UK oldest British caterers and still carries the high standard first set 175 years ago . Founded in London by John Searcy , once the confectioner to the Duke of Northumberland , our roots have been in event catering from the very start . With a clientele of nobles and aristocrats , John Searcy catered for lavish balls and parties and was renowned for his elaborately decorated wedding cakes – so much so , he came out of retirement in 1896 to create the wedding cake for Princess Maud ( youngest daughter of Edward VII ) for her marriage to Prince Carl of Denmark .
For Searcys , the milestone is a true testament to the work and service set by our founder . Described as ‘ gentle , courteous and masterful ’, John Searcy ’ s legacy continued throughout the decades , catering for some of recent history ’ s biggest events , from coronations to Jubilees , with Searcys now operating at over 20 landmark venues in London , Bath and Oxford .
The birthday celebrations are a time for Searcys to come together as a company to honour to 175 years of success and toast to many more . It is a chance to say thank you to our teams , clients and guests , all coming out of the difficult two years of pandemic . It also has allowed us the time to reminisce and discover parts of our history which might had been forgotten . Throughout this year ,
we ’ ve also added some new milestones to the list – from new venues ( including The View at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and IET : Savoy Place ) and the reopening of Europe ’ s longest Champagne bar at St Pancras to the launch of our first ever Champagne Rolls Royce bar on wheels ( aptly named the Searcys Champagne Coupé ) and our first English Sparkling Wine with Greyfriars .
Conference News : Searcys has pledged £ 175k to charities , how big of a part does charity / community play in its sustainable goals ?
Searcys : Charity and community work plays a huge role in Searcys ’ ethos as a company . Plans are in place to continue to reach our sustainability goals , from reducing our waste to sourcing produce from local suppliers .
For the past few years , we have worked with several charity partners , including Hotel School , Beyond Food and London www . conference-news . co . uk
