rotect Duty , or Martyn ’ s Law as it is colloquially called , is a legislation that places the responsibility of protecting the general public on organisers , when holding an event at a publicly accessible venue . The legislation is yet to be published , but it is confirmed to come into force in 2023 , with the rumour-mill swirling around what the impact on organisers in the sector is going to be . This , combined with shake-ups in the Government as well as the somewhat fractious relationship that events have with the political powers-that-be , means that Protect Duty is still somewhat of a mystery for many eventprofs .
