HILTON LONDON HEATHROW AIRPORT :

DRIVING THE PACE OF CHANGE

Hilton London Heathrow Airport explains how it delivers an integrated approach to sustainability that keeps it as the most-awarded airport hotel in the industry
nvironmental impact was already on the Hilton London Heathrow Airport agenda when sustainability was not yet a buzz word in the hospitality and event industry . The hotel , in fact , was ahead of the curve when it was built 30 years ago , with its structural architecture developed to maximise the use of natural light through its iconic squared arch design made of floor-to-ceiling glass on both sides . Fast forward , 30 years later , the eco-friendly credentials of the hotel have been extended in all areas , events and conferences included , following a £ 3.2m renovation finalised in summer 2021 .
Offering an array of multifunctional space from 10 to 300 delegates , an excellent healthy dining offer at OXBO ’ s three food and beverage outlets and 398 spacious rooms , the hotel continues to be noticed for its constant commitment to sustainability which has contributed to it gaining the World ’ s Leading Airport Hotel title for four consecutive years ( 2017-2020 ) and Europe ’ s Leading Airport Hotel for seven consecutive years ( 2015- 2021 ) at the World Travel Awards .
“ We weave sustainability throughout all the elements of the hotel , from arrival to departure , and through all the event activities ,” states Oliver Stockland , area general manager , who drives the post-Covid strategic direction of the hotel .
“ We have a responsibility to bring to the brief , and to the table , as many sustainable and functional elements as possible that deliver a unique point of difference . For this reason , we have built sustainability into every process and practice of the customer journey as a brand and as a hotel ,” continues Stockland , “ from digital keys on your phone for contactless and paperless check-in , a bucolic vegetable and herb garden where coffee grounds are recycled as fertiliser , to a soap recycle scheme that gives life to left-over soap for communities in third-world countries . Our USPs are driven by conscience and the objective to leave a lasting impression for all the right reasons ”.
Stockland , who managed to make Hilton London Heathrow Airport the hotel with the highest level of customer satisfaction among all the Hilton Hotels and Resorts in the UK , has fuelled the hotel with his green ideology , taking forward-thinking sustainable steps . This includes sourcing all their electricity from renewable sources , a ban on single-use plastics in their meeting and event spaces , a commitment to composting and recycling schemes followed religiously , a beehive in the garden for the production of their own honey , paper straws , and three F & B outlets that live up to the ecoconscious promise with a vast array of locally sourced products , often from their garden .
