Esther Teeken , chief operating officer , The Institute of Directors orporate events often bring together the more senior figureheads within an industry , be it for meetings or team-building activities , creating a memorable experience is top of the list for the organisers .
At The Institute of Directors ( IoD ), corporate events are not only social activities but also a chance to show off its headquarters at the Grade I listed building , 116 Pall Mall . Esther Teeken , chief operating officer , The IoD , shares more about the institute ’ s operations in the corporate sector .
History in the making The IoD straddles the line between a community for senior directors and being a host with a historic building , thus it has to welcome external events as well as host events for its own members .
When asked about the value of events to The IoD , Teeken says : “ We value face-to-face events a lot , because we not only share this building with so many more members , but we also want to give other people the opportunity to use the building . Not every business hosts these huge conferences or has access to
areas like we have .”
Opened in 1828 , 116 Pall Mall is the home of The IoD , and the age of the building is more than a number according to Teeken : “ The historic aspect is really important to share with corporate events .
“ Say , we host an awards show which has run for more than 50 years . In a building that ’ s older than 50 years , that connection with London is important . People have a link with history for their events .”
But it ’ s not all about sharing the historic building , The IoD itself has an engagement day with its chairs , who are all volunteers . “ They come to promote their organisation and we have various breakout sessions ,” says Teeken .
