9 London and Paris partner for two-in-one incentive The official convention bureaux for London and Paris have announced a new partnership which they claim will see the two cities working together for the first time to deliver a “unique two-in-one incentive trip”. The agreement is aimed at inspiring North American incentive buyers to book a 2-in-1 trip for their clients. The itineraries have been curated to showcase how easy it is to enjoy both cities in one incentive trip and includes an official partnership with Eurostar. Joshua Novick, VP business tourism at London Convention Bureau, said: “London is open to collaboration with other likeminded global cities and by working together as we are doing in this way.” Corinne Menegaux, general manager of the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau added: “Both cities combine leisure and business attractions that are the keys to successful events and they have a constantly evolving offer to make the ‘Old World’ very attractive.” News UKinbound urges Edinbrgh to rethink marketing cuts UK tourism trade association UKInbound has joined Marketing Edinburgh’s chief executive in urging Edinburgh City Council to reconsider a proposed 89% cut to its marketing budget over two years. The cuts would leave the city as the only major city in the developed world without a DMO. The proposed cut would apply to Edinburgh’s marketing team, convention bureau and film office. Joss Croft (pictured), chief executive of UKinbound, urged the City Council to think again, saying: “Edinburgh is the second most visited city in the UK by overseas visitors and this proposed cut puts that at risk. At a time when the UK needs to be outward facing and establishing new trade partnerships, leaving the city without a DMO would undoubtedly hurt the city’s economy.” John Donnelly, chief executive of Marketing Edinburgh, said the council’s proposal could cut £567,000 (64%) from the 2019/2020 budget and a further £223,000 in 2020/2021. Underlining Croft’s comments, it would, he said, “have serious consequences for the city’s economy”.
