The Mayor of London ’ s green new deal aims to make London a zero-carbon , zero pollution city by 2030 and zero-waste by 2050 , powering London ’ s recovery and creating thousands of green jobs . Initiatives include a Tube Network run entirely on renewable energy and the world ’ s first Ultra Low Emission Zone . London ’ s event industry has a vital role to play in the city ’ s sustainable future . From a plethora of sustainable venues and caterers with zero-waste policies , to energy-efficient technology , our venues and hotels are constantly innovating to reduce carbon emissions and improve their sustainability credentials .
Many of our venues meet the ISO 2021 accreditation standard , indicating a high standard of recycling , waste and working practice around energy efficiency and sustainability . Over 122 hotels , venues and conference centres are also part of the Green Tourism Scheme , promoting
active ways for businesses to become more sustainable .
Venues leading the way include the Business Design Centre , which this year celebrates ten years of being carbon neutral , the Barbican with its zero to landfill policy and its 100 % usage of renewable energy and The O2 , which recently announced it will become the first venue in the world to trial generating power from vertical-axis wind turbines . For some of our new hotel openings , sustainability is at their core from the start . The Londoner will be one of the greenest hotels in the country when it opens later this year after securing a £ 175m Green Loan from HSBC . Treehouse London also has entire walls made of reclaimed wood and bark and locally sourced ingredients in their restaurant and the Good Hotel puts 100 % of their profits towards supporting social causes around the world .
There are a number of
sustainable hubs emerging across London to deliver green innovation , like the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park which is home to a cluster of cleantech and mobility innovators and Kings Cross , which just brokered a deal to become the first neighbourhood in the UK to move its entire gas supply to green gas .
Sustainable travel to and from London is important too , as well as how you navigate the city once you are here . If you arrive by Eurostar , they will plant a tree for every train service operated on its routes . Once you ’ re in London , you can pick up one of the 11,500 bicycles in circulation in the city .
