DATES DRIVING

Peter Heath , founder of Venue Performance , says that booking patterns in April prove corporates are leading the charge back to live in line with the roadmap hen we started measuring the performance of meetings and events , we were doing it at the same time as the Government was trying to work out what was going on with Covid-19 . I had a certain amount of sympathy for them . Everyone wanted answers and everyone had an opinion about what to do . If only life was that simple . If it was , we wouldn ’ t need the clever people like
Professors Chris Whitty and Jonathan Van-Tam . As Steve Jobs once said : “ It doesn ’ t make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do ; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do .”
And so , we began the long haul of watching the daily briefings , with the country ’ s actions being driven ( allegedly ) by data , not dates .
As our industry takes a look at April ’ s data with Venue Performance , what does it tell us ? Below : Fig 1
Well , what it does tell us is that more money was spent on confirming events during April than in March . March saw the first spike of 2021 and we were all waiting to see if the spike was just that , a spike . Or was it a trend , or at least the beginning of a trend ?
I ’ m pleased to say that the curve continues to head north : the trend has continued for a second consecutive month , and that is good news indeed . www . conference-news . co . uk
