What ’ s new ? Event planners familiar with what Manchester has to offer will be pleasantly surprised by the number of new and upgraded spaces to emerge out of lockdown . The city has become a hub of hybrid event activity . The Lowry Hotel , The Stoller Hall , INNSiDE by Melia hotel , the Science and Industry Museum and The Edwardian Manchester are just some of the venues to have invested in new technology and created dedicated production suites .
Several new hotels have popped up , too . The 137-bedroom Dakota Manchester has its own cigar garden , champagne room and brasserie , while the quirky Qbic hotel with its fun , eco-friendly interiors has 261 rooms , making it one of the biggest hotels to open in the city in recent years .
Luxury hotel brand Kimpton unveiled its fourth UK property in the city at the end of last year –
the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel – replacing what was the Principal Manchester . It has 17 function rooms , the main attraction being the 1,000-capacity ballroom , the largest hotel ballroom in the North West .
Former train station Depot Mayfield officially opened back in 2019 , but hasn ’ t yet had the opportunity to fulfil its potential as an event space . It has five large industrial areas and three interlinking archways capable of hosting up to 10,000 people when combined . It ’ s also home to Escape To Freight Island , an urban market boasting a variety of bars , restaurants , food trucks , retail spaces and a bike park .
Foodie destination , Society Manchester , opened in May , bolstering Manchester ’ s popular street food scene . The new £ 1m food hall can cater for up to 350 people and has an outdoor patio , lounge area and mezzanine .

Space to Meet Thanks to its rich cultural heritage , Manchester has a venue to suit every taste , from historic buildings and academic institutions like Manchester Metropolitan University – which has won awards for reducing the environmental impact of its conferences – to world-class museums and sports stadiums .
“ We ’ ve got some great venues , a lot of experience , and a lot of unique places for people to go ,” says Angela Hodson , sales director at Emirates Old Trafford . “ We ’ re working together collaboratively as a city to make sure we ’ re safe and ready for people to come back .”
Emirates Old Trafford launched its ‘ Safe in One Place ’ campaign – an initiative aimed at sharing best practice and insight gained from hosting Test Match cricket and accommodating players in the on – site Hilton Garden Inn hotel – last summer .
“ Our team has had a lot of experience in dealing with behind-closed-doors cricket , so we ’ ve been able to translate that to events side of the business , meaning we ’ ve been able to fulfil them really safely ,” explains Hodson .
You only need to look at the Manchester skyline to see the city has big plans for the future , and there are plenty more exciting developments to come . The Science and Industry Museum , for example , is currently undergoing a multi-million-pound regeneration , which will see brand new spaces opened for the first time next year and improvements to some of its best loved galleries .
