months , hundreds of organisations and I have done sometimes five , six calls a day . No one has gone “ this isn ’ t needed ” or said “ I don ’ t get it ”. It ’ s been nigh-on unilateral support .”
A degree of success
For the organisation , it ’ s not just about working with eventprofs , having touchpoints with universities and academics to uncover what eventgrads are being taught is an important pillar in the strategy . Having access to academia also allows the Power of Events to conduct more robust research , by partnering with universities and utilising research grants .
But it ’ s not just a one-way street , the hub that will be on offer aims to highlight inroads for graduates , according to Hughes . He said : “ We know , for example , that some of the academics been looking at apprenticeships , and had no idea that there was a whole team in the BVEP who ’ ve been working on apprenticeships . So , there ’ s a connection to be made there .”
The give and take also extends to the organisation itself . Hughes talked about the education he received from working more closely with academia . He said : “ Another point is that we genuinely don ’ t really know what the best university is for event management . It turns out there are 10 that work very closely together , three of whom we haven ’ t yet contacted , but they ’ ve got good
faculties and a really good reputation and are acknowledged as centres of excellence . So that exchange of information and contacts , that bringing people together , is already happening .”
Moving forward
I asked for the final notes on what challenges The Power of Events faced when it comes to reaching its goals , the reception from eventprofs when it comes to be a more unified industry across the seven sectors .
Stainton spoke about “ a traditional myth in our industry that one sector does not really interact with anything similar to another sector .” But also pointed out that during his calls with prospective supporters that he had “ broken down a huge amount of those misconceptions of the past few months .”
Concluding , Stainton
“ We ’ ve got the cross seven sector engagement that no one else has , that ’ s the essence of our success , which we ’ ve nurtured and evolved as we went along through One Industry One Voice .”
said : “ There is a lot more to do and we will still need to spread the word to every corner of the seven core sectors and reach our start-up support fund target . So , we ’ re asking all event professionals , trade associations , industry media and support organisations , who are so passionate about our industry ’ s positive impact and future resilience , to help us achieve both these important goals .” CN
