DRIVING DIVERSITY

EVCOM ’ s Claire Fennelow says young people are the key to creating a more diverse and inclusive sector .
he industry is changing . Diversity , equality and inclusion are becoming not just nice-to-haves but essential considerations for so many businesses . This is going to be reflected most in new hires as employers look to find and nurture diverse talent . At senior level , this change is not impossible , but it is likely to be slower . Looking at our own senior board , and the boards of many associations like ours , diversity is something that we struggle with hugely .
We at EVCOM are committed to greater diversity and inclusion at all levels , but a year of focused work in this area has taught us that youth engagement and diversity and inclusion go hand in hand . Having launched our youth and diversity and inclusion programmes as separate ventures initially , the crossover soon became impossible to ignore . The more we developed our youth initiatives and built our DEI commitment , the clearer it became to us that the two were inextricably linked .
We realised that the key to creating a more diverse and inclusive association , and wider sector , was going to be engaging young and diverse people . We www . conference-news . co . uk
