Why Oman works as a MICE destination
What does Oman offer your event that other destinations can’ t?
O man has been established in the tourism and travel market for over 15 years but for a long time has been known mainly as a beach resort destination.
However, a sustained investment programme and astute planning in recent years has seen Oman rocket up the pecking order of preferred destinations for conferences, exhibitions and business travel. With top quality urban and coastline facilities complemented by its varied natural beauty, it is one of the most diverse nations in the Middle East. It is a country rich in nature, history and culture.
Oman has long been a hub for trade and culture, bridging the gap between India, Asia and East Africa. A proud seafaring tradition endures even today, with the capital Muscat especially a centre for trade, both contemporary and traditional.
It stands to reason that the traditional trading ethos of Oman has embraced a rapidly growing demand for fi rst class MICE facilities. Muscat has no shortage of event space to host large meetings or events and is available to all ranges of budgets.
The new OECC which will be fully open later in 2017, will be an impressive addition for conferences and events while smaller space is available at a range of hotels and venues in and around Muscat.
Unlike neighbouring countries, Muscat is not a city defi ned by extravagant high-rise buildings or glittery boulevards. It prides itself on a more traditional, relaxed environment, drawing from themes of its heritage, a heritage the local population are all too happy to share. It is a gateway to real Arabian experience.
Arabic is the offi cial language in Oman but English is widely spoken, and communities from both Asia and Euope are well represented.
With over 3,000km of Indian Ocean coastline providing amazing beaches, mountains rising majestically in the north and east and vast rolling desert in the west, Oman’ s geography caters for all needs.
The country also offers many incentive and teambuilding opportunities, such as desert safaris, camping trips, camel treks, off-road driving and watersports.
