Materials engineer Professor Bronwyn Fox is helping to usher in the fourth industrial revolution with her pioneering work in carbon fibre composite materials .
Carbon fibre composites are lightweight , high-strength materials ideal for high-performance parts for things like aeroplanes and satellites .
They can be used to build lighter-weight transport that uses less fuel and produces fewer harmful emissions .
Professor Fox , along with Swinburne University of Technology and CSIRO , has helped develop a world-first technique to 3D print carbon fibre composites on a large scale .
This method deposits a layer of fibre every 15 seconds and reduces waste from over 60 % to around 10 %.
This will reduce costs and manufacturing time , and increase access to this indemand material .
Professor Fox ’ s work in carbon fibre composites is at the forefront of a new era in global manufacturing .
