Hei Āhuru Mōwai founding member Gary Thompson says:“ Aotearoa New Zealand has a wealth of knowledge to share in Indigenous cancer care, including Māori providers delivering hauora services. Hauora, our Māori view of health, embraces the physical, mental, social, and spiritual dimensions of well-being, placing whānau( family) at the heart of care.
“ This holistic approach ensures that hospital cancer services and community providers are seamlessly connected to improve outcomes for our people. Through this conference, we aim to share these innovations with other Indigenous nations while learning from their experiences to foster mutual growth and collaboration.”
Beyond academic and scientific presentations, the programme will celebrate Māori culture, incorporating Rotorua’ s world-renowned attractions and authentic cultural experiences to provide delegates with a meaningful and enriching visit.
Thompson added:“ As an Indigenous conference, it’ s vital to host it in a vibrant environment that reflects our heritage. This is a unique opportunity to showcase the incredible work we’ re doing here, while sharing our culture and stories with the world.”
Queenstown, famed for its incredible lakes and alpine landscapes, will host the First International Joint Workshop of JTC1 & JTC3 on Landslide Risk Assessment, Communication and Geo-education at the Millennium Hotel Queenstown in April 2026.
Destination Queenstown Chief Executive, Mat Woods, says business events are vital to the region’ s tourism industry and a conference focused on landslides is especially relevant to Queenstown with its unique landscapes and alpine terrain.
“ We look forward to welcoming international experts in this field to Queenstown to share knowledge on adapting to climate change and preparing both our tourism industry, and the wider community, for the increasing risk of natural disasters.”
Meanwhile, Hamilton will welcome the World Jersey Conference in 2027, bringing delegates from around the globe to experience New Zealand’ s dairy heartland. The 2027
programme will include a five-day conference in the Waikato region visiting local farms.
UNESCO City of Literature Dunedin will welcome IASIL 2027, the Conference of the International Association for the Study of Irish Literatures in 2027. The city – home to New Zealand’ s oldest university, the University of Otago, unspoiled heritage architecture, and some of the world’ s rarest wildlife – has also leveraged its strong education sector to welcome CUMULUS 2026- The Global Association of Art and Design Education and Research, and the Reconceptualising Early Childhood Education conference, both in 2026.
