US turbulence and new Asian event tigers
Managing editor, Paul Colston
A s we present this May / June
magazine edition at IMEX in Frankfurt, we naturally profile the show, and also an interview with CEO Carina Bauer. We also showcase the German Convention Bureau’ s latest strategy which focuses heavily on data and collaboration. Estrel Berlin, Frankfurt and Hannover’ s continuing appeal are also examined in our Germany section.
IMEX Frankfurt will also give our industry an opportunity to discuss face to face and share experiences and even anxieties around issues of US tariff policies and a change of course in Washington regarding approaches to DEI issues.
Some of our Stateside-based industry associations use their columns in this issue to restate their belief in doubling down on diversity policies, but clearly this is a fastchanging environment in the US and there are anecdotal reports of associations and even some corporates rethinking their plans to take their big event to the US.
Of course, Nature abhors a vacuum, and Theo Reilly looks at the likely further rise of Asian economies and how the new politics Stateside may act as an impetus for a stronger reliance on regional alliances, particularly in Asia( p62-63), which could dominate the events world. He quotes a PwC report that predicts a new band of countries – E7 – including China,
Brazil, India and Russia, set to account for double the wealth of the G7 countries by 2050.
For quieter reflection, we look at creating‘ Zen Zones’ in our regular Wellness section( p58) and follow the Marrakech event express, where Ramy Salameh checks out the latest M & I show there.
As always, we anticipate your feedback and experiences to share with the wider Conference & Meetings World. Do look us up at IMEX Frankfurt, stand B460, where we will be running a video studio. n
