Australia

a Celebrity ’ s menu into a cocked cork hat !
The Cairns odyssey drew to a close with a farewell reception at the Tanks Art Centre , in Cairns Botanic Gardens . Another truly unique environment for business events where your delegates can get a first-hand close-up taste of the tropical rainforest .
I was mindful of one of Robin Mack ’ s many visitor statistics : that 40 % of Australia ’ s business visitors go on to explore a second destination .
Our UK group was treated to Sydney as our ‘ post-tour ’ destination , guided by Ovation DMC . This involved a backstage tour of Sydney Opera House ’ s event spaces and dinner with a view over the harbour to die for .
Among other thrills experienced in the city was a VIP boat trip across the harbour and a seaplane tour which gave the full panorama from on high .
With planes and boats and plenty of automobile tours , we were also treated to a city tour on the back of Harley Davidson bikes . A great way to get around , so get your motor running .
And , while the W and the Sofitel are just two of the many hotels you can choose to enjoy spectacular views of Sydney and its harbours ( Australia ’ s Sofitel Sydney Wentworth , in the heart of Sydney ’ s CBD , has also now unveiled its A $ 70m refurbishment ), the Barangaroo district , in particular , is worth exploring
and is testament to Sydney ’ s impressive transformation and growth .
I asked Scott Blondel , head of event travel at high-end corporate travel and events management agency Reed & Mackay , based in the UK , about his experiences on the packed programme :
“ I was captured by the natural beauty of Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef , as well as the vibrant energy of Sydney . In Cairns , I was blown away by being able to get so close to the natural wonders .
“ Sydney was equally captivating , with its iconic landmarks . From climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge to taking a seaplane ride over the city as well as taking in views of the Opera House and experiencing world-class dining was unforgettable . The city boasts an array of hotels and venues to suit all groups .
“ The warmth and hospitality of the locals made this trip extra special , taking service to the next level . If you ’ re looking for a destination that will inspire , reward and connect your team then consider Australia for your next incentive or event .”
I would echo Scott ’ s endorsement : Australia is far more than an excellent events destination , but rather a state of mind and a mind-blowing experience .

with the event returning to Melbourne / Narrm – the first time since 2013 international events planners will have been to Melbourne for the showcase .
“ Traditionally , our signature incentive showcase has been held every two years but as we ramped up efforts to secure a strong pipeline of international business it was important to give more buyers an opportunity to take part ,” Harrison said .
Melbourne Convention Bureau CEO , Julia Swanson , is clearly looking forward to the hosting challenge in 2025 , and says : “ Melbourne is the ideal city to promote our country . It ’ s vibrant , welcoming and well-connected , offering a multitude of ever-changing and exclusive experiences to accommodate everyone . Our infrastructure paves the way for highly successful business events due to world-leading facilities and venues , extensive transport system and a large range of quality accommodation readily available .” n
