In 2022 , Destination Canada launched the Canadian Business Events Sustainability Plan – a first-of-its-kind national programme aimed at improving the economic , socio-cultural and environmental sustainability practices of business events hosted in Canada .
As part of the plan , this year , the 16 participating destinations took part in the Global Destination Sustainability Index ( GDS-Index ) annual benchmarking process .
With 20 Canadian destinations now participating in the Index , this represents the highest national concentration of GDS-Index destinations globally – and is demonstrative of Destination Canada ’ s commitment to this increasingly crucial aspect of the industry .
