Anthony Ryan , CEO of Brisbane Economic Development Agency ( BEDA ), said the return of international travel was helping the sector rebound . 2025 , the first time this event will have been held in Australia . More than 2,000 delegates are expected to convene at BCEC . Professor Edith Gray , convenor and chair of the Australian Bid Committee said : “ The conference is held every four years and has specific requirements . The first was that we wanted a host city that delegates could fly directly into . Brisbane easily accommodated this because of the large number of cities from which airlines operate directly , and with the expansion of Brisbane airport that is set to increase . The second was that we wanted to run the conference as sustainably as possible . We were impressed with environmental initiatives undertaken by the BCEC , and the surrounding South Bank area , such as water capturing and recycling , and food composting for the gardens .
“ The excellent public transport network is also a big factor , with options including the Airtrain from the airport , and trains , buses and water ferries , which provide a more sustainable way for delegates to travel in the city . Another factor was financial support , competitive venue and catering prices , and bid support – all second to none .
“ People can also go from here to the Great Barrier Reef , to outback Australia , and other parts of the country . We can ’ t wait to host our international colleagues .”
