AsiaWord-Expo ( AWE ) kick-started a HK $ 600 million venue-wide renovation project last year to pave the way for a post-pandemic business revival . AWE invested a signifi cant amount of time and manpower to expedite the project , introducing a full-range of benefi ts to both organisers and delegates . The major revamp of AsiaWorld-Arena was completed and unveiled on 1 January , 2022 .
AsiaWorld-Arena is Hong Kong ’ s largest indoor seated stadium . With a total fl oor space of 10,880sqm , the Arena can accommodate up to 14,000 attendees .
Its new Retractable Seat Riser system can be installed quickly , facilitates a fast changeover and enables greater operational effi ciency . It ’ s scalable and retractable by blocks and rows , offering wide variations in stage design .
Signage leading to the seating zone , along with ancillary services such as washrooms , have also been revamped to handle larger footfall . Some 75 % of male washrooms are now equipped with extendable partitions and digital signage , which allows for quick
conversion from male to female washrooms when needed , in order to avoid long queues .
Backstage has been fully renovated to include showers and relaxation rooms for artists , speakers and crew . A VIP Lounge has been given a modern , exclusive feel – ideal for pre-function activities , hospitality and drinks receptions . While new acoustic panels have been installed throughout to ensure the fi nest sound quality .
Technology and Network Advancements
● To stay ahead of the new norm , the entire infrastructure in AWE has been upgraded using Wifi -6, a fi rst of Hong Kong ’ s MICE industry , enabling 40 % faster connections and better performance in device-dense environments .
● Complemented with venue-wide upgrade of mobile transmission to 5G , higher signal stability with ultra-high speed and reduced latency is enabled .
Mobile Studio
● A moveable booth has been introduced , with built-in lighting , air-conditioning , video
conferencing software and live streaming devices , including webcam and microphone .
● The sound-proofed standalone booth is ideal for e-meetings , virtual interviews and live streaming .
Ozone Water Disinfection System
● An Ozone Water Disinfection System has been installed in all washrooms and the central kitchen . It offers improved disinfecting and enhanced food preparation hygiene .
● Washing fruits and vegetables by ozonised water prevents contamination from chemicals .
Escalator & lift upgrades
● All escalators have been upgraded with built-in UV sterilisers to provide continuous and effi cient sterilisation on handrails when the escalator is in operation .
● Lifts have had touch-less technology applied so that visitors can control the lift button panel without physically touching the plate .
