News GLOBAL SNAPSHOT ASIA Pico forms alliance to drive smart events in China Subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Pico Far East Holdings Limited, Global International Convention and Exhibition (Tianjin) Company has formed a strategic alliance in Northern China to develop venue operations and services. The alliance aims to create a high added-value, high-traffic ecosystem for the cultural and business sectors at Binhai Cultural Center - the largest single cultural complex in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, with an area of 120,000sqm. AMERICAS New president & CEO for Destination Canada Marsha Walden has been appointed as new president and CEO of the country’s destination promotion board internationally, Destination Canada. Walden joins from Destination British Columbia where she served as the president and CEO since 2013. She takes over from David Robinson. Walden’s first day in the new role was 24 August, 2020. In 2019, a record 22.1m visitors travelled to Canada and tourism expenditures reached an estimated CAD$105.1bn last year. EUROPE ECM launches Mentor Programme for new meeting professionals European Cities Marketing has launched its first ECM Mentor Programme, an initiative designed to secure networking and knowledge exchange between new and advanced meetings professionals. This 12-month programme is free and aims to help young professionals who, during the pandemic, have missed out on being properly introduced to the sector. Mentors and mentees will invest 90 minutes a month in working together. Matchmaking will take place at the end of September 2020. ASIA ICCA reveals regional hubs for 59th Congress The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has announced its list of regional hubs for its 59th Congress. While the main venue remains Kaohsiung, Taiwan, travel is a concern and ICCA is complementing the host destination with regional hub hybrid events. A virtual option will be available to those staying at home or located in the Americas.
