Venue Spotlight New normal opens up new worlds for Messe München ince March, when the coronavirus pandemic brought a halt to events in Germany and across Europe, the team at Messe München’s complex of locations has been looking to the future and working tirelessly to acquire new customers. The Sales team reports that, despite the pandemic, interest in holding events at the venues continues to be strong and much of the initial discussions have been about alternative event formats and how to adapt the facilities during the coronavirus period. One example of the new thinking was the set up, in double-quick time, of an open-air drive-in cinema, the Autokino+, on the outdoor area to the north of the Messe München Fairground. Academic links have also proved fruitful. The ICM – Internationales Congress Center München opened its doors to host state law examinations organised by the Ministry of Justice, and the MOC Veranstaltungscenter hosted the examinations of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The Messe München’s deputy managing director, Monika Dech, says: “In these unusual times many event organisers have been choosing our venue locations for events in the medium and long term - confirmation of our excellent reputation in the sector and also of the fact that people in the world of business and commerce are looking to get back to direct, personal contacts at trade exhibitions and congresses.” Hyper Bowl & digital One new format that has been showcased at the Fairground is the Hyper Bowl, a mixed reality studio featuring a 270° LED wall used for filming, photoshoots and product presentations. And it all goes digital in March 2021 when another new customer, GPEC® digital, comes to town. This leading tradefair for digitisation of internal security will run 24-25 March, 2021 at the Messe München Conference Center Nord, with Hall C6, and bring an estimated 2,300 participants from 28 countries, as well as 190 exhibitors. Dr Uwe Wehrstedt, managing director of organiser EMW Exhibition & Media Wehrstedt GmbH, explains why he chose Messe München: “Following our premiere in Berlin in 2019, I wanted to move the event to the IT capital of Germany, namely Munich. The Conference Center Nord, in conjunction with Hall C6, offers the best conditions for GPEC® digital. The infrastructure is first class and the modular system of Hall C6 gives us flexibility in how we design the event and can expand at short notice. Also, we feel very welcome in Munich, as the Bavarian State Minister of the Interior, for Sport and Integration, Joachim Herrmann, has become Above: The Locations Messe München Sales team Get in touch with Messe München Locations’ new director Katharina Keupp and her team via [email protected] +49 (0)89 949 20631 patron of our event.” Cycling contest in C1 A new customer from the sports sector for 2022 is the 2nd European Championships. From 11 to15 August, 2022, the Championships of cycling will be held in Hall C1 of the Messe München fairgrounds, with many other disciplines in this multi-sports event taking place around the city of Munich. A good way to mark the 50-year anniversary since the Bavarian capital hosted the Summer Olympics in 1972.
