They become the No.1 and No.9 events in the organiser’s portfolio respectively, with expected revenue of $35.8m and EBITDA of $12.2m in 2019. The two market-leading US events were created by the founders of Money2020, who will oversee the integration and share best practice with hosted buying technology. The acquisition builds on the scale of Hyve’s global brands division, and continues the direction of managing the portfolio towards market-leading events. The panel, ‘Bringing People Together for Climate: The Role of the Events Industry’, included speakers Mariela McIlwraith, Director of Industry Advancement, Events Industry Council; Yalmaz Siddiqui, Vice President, Corporate Sustainability at MGM Resorts International and Marta Muñoz from the Spanish Ministry of Ecological Transition (MITECO). Throughout his session Cooper gave some key examples of how IACC and its 400 international partner venues are working on becoming more sustainable. IACC became the first to attain one of the highest levels of the Event Industry Council’s Sustainable Event Standards for its Europe Knowledge Festival event, which took place in Brussels in October. IACC CEO Mark Cooper at UN Climate Conference COP25 Latvia to open Atta Centre in 2020 Atta Centre, the largest convention centre in the Baltics, is set to open at the end of the first quarter of 2020. The venue in the Latvian capital of Riga will offer a total area of 15,000sqm and will have 29 conference rooms, an office centre and co-working space, a restaurant with a terrace, as well as a large parking lot with charging stations for electric vehicles. Up to 3,300 delegates will be accommodated. $127m expansion at Charlotte Convention Centre The Charlotte Convention Centre in North Carolina, USA, has broken ground on a $126.9m expansion project. The City of Charlotte, the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority (CRVA), hospitality leaders and members of the community officially kicked off the expansion with a groundbreaking ceremony 8 / CONFERENCE & MEETINGS WORLD / ISSUE 104 including remarks from Mayor Vi Lyles and Tom Murray, CEO of CRVA. A primary component of the expansion will be a pedestrian bridge linking the new wing of the convention centre to The Westin Charlotte hotel, the city’s largest convention centre hotel with more than 700 rooms.
