vents are firmly back in the nation ’ s capital city , Canberra , with the convention bureau reporting greater demand than pre-Covid . Not only are the number of events increasing but revenue for Canberra operators is higher now than it was pre-Covid , according to the bureau which , reports many city venues already booked out for 2023 .
The CVB also reports that most venues are struggling to find enough staffing resources to meet demand . A lot of enquiries are short lead and venues are already booked for some required dates .
Delegates are also tending to wait to the last minute to register for a conference .
So how is the destination positioning itself to win back business ? “ We are positioning Canberra as an easy-to-access capital with access to knowledge leaders through our five universities , and proximity to Parliament , enabling clients unparalleled access to politicians to advance industry issues ,” says Kimberley Roberts-Salee , head of marketing at Canberra Convention Bureau . expenditure for the Canberra region , with further daily visitation of both Australian and overseas attendees of around 8,000 attendees per day . The 2023 National Architecture Conference will arrive , 30-31 October 2023 , with organisers predicting over 750 delegates . The main meeting venue is Kambri at Australian National University . The Australian Hydrogen Research Network ( AHRN ) Conference 2023 , 8-10 February 2023 , an inaugural conference for the AHRN , will also be held at Kambri at ANU . While the Financial Counselling Australia ( FCA ) Conference 2023 with 695 pax , will be held at National Convention Centre Canberra , 17-18 May 2023 .

Key sectors Canberra is home to influencers and thought leaders driving innovation , knowledge in a range of key sectors , including defence : the city is home of the Department of Defence , key national security , intelligence and border protection agencies , law enforcement , key global defence companies , and Australian Federal Government . Space is another strong sector , with the capital being home to the ANU National Space Test Facilities , the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex ( managed on behalf of NASA ) and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory . Other key sectors include Agri-technology ( the city is home to national agricultural peak bodies such as the Department of Agriculture , Water and Environment and the National Farmers Federation ) and Renewable energy . While ICT and E-Govermment figure strongly . Education , Health and Sports Sciences are also strong sectors for events . The CVB works with a network of local knowledge leaders within those industries to support them in leading conference bids . In terms of infrastructure developments , new accommodation coming online in 2023 includes the Sebel Campbell , a brand offering a selection of studios and suites ., and Meriton Suites , opening in May 2023 , a new apartment-style hotel located within Canberra ’ s CBD .
“ Canberra is the most progressive city in Australia and is the place to meet to have your industry ’ s issues heard ,” Roberts-Salee adds .
Major events on the books for 2023 and beyond include the World Flower Show 2027 . Canberra will host the World Association of Floral Artists ( WAFA ) World Flower Show , 21 February-1 March 2027 . WAFA will bring the triennial show to Australia for the first time and it is expected to attract delegates from 31 countries , generating an estimated AUD $ 1.4m in
