Cairns Convention Centre building back strong

ver at the Cairns Convention Centre ( CCC ) they are feeling very positive about 2023 , with 35 conventions confirmed . The recent expansion now allows the CCC to host multiple events at once and the team reports a record number of bids in play . While the outgoing year has seen some serious challenges for the centre , including filling the casual workforce , the hope is to see more hospitality workers return to the region and want to get back into the events industry next year .

Management says people are keen to meet again , but they are making more conscious decisions about their travel and where they want to go . Hybrid is here to stay , they believe , with some wanting to be able to access the event content without having to travel , while others want to get back out and meet face-to-face .

Centre in 2023 include :
• International Society for Nutritional Psychiatric Research Conference
• IUFRO Division 5 - Forest Products Division 5 Conference
• International Congress on Vertebrate Morphology
• 14th International Conference of Archaeozoology
• CIGRE 2023 – Symposium - International Council on Large Electric Systems
• Congress of International Plant Molecular Biology .
The CCC ’ s list of sectors on which it draws for event bookings extends beyond tourism and life sciences associated with the reef and rainforest . Cairns is home to the Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine , which is responsible for a range of research projects , from new tests to detect Malaria , through to exploring how venom could help develop new life-saving drugs . Agribusiness is a key industry sector for CCC business . From the world ’ s first banana-based flour and the $ 173m avocado industry to the groundbreaking research carried out by the Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture , there is lot of new development . Other key sectors , as previously mentioned by TTNQ , include aviation , marine services , education , and renewable energy . The CCC team is focusing on building relationships with local experts to explore opportunities to bring national and international events to the region that can benefit from local educational / field trips and enhance projects / research .
Sustainability is a big priority for the venue , of course , and it partners with the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre and promotes opportunities for events to leave an impact on the local region . Events can also partner with Rainforest Rescue , Reforest and the Reef Restoration Foundation , to name a few , to bring local sustainability elements to their events .
Professor Dean Lusher , from the Swinburne University of Technology , was an organiser of Sunbelt 2022 , the XLII Social Networks Conference of the International Network for Social Network Analysis , and shared this view of the experience in Cairns :
