THETRADETECHFX DA I LY Adios, Barcelona The hazy, halcyon days of summer may be well behind us but an ear- ly September visit to Barcelona reminded us of what we’ll be missing in the coming winter months with a few days of glorious sunshine. There was, of course, a more important reason for us to be in the Catalonian capital – this year’s TradeTech FX Europe. While many of Barcelona’s citizens were out in force celebrating the National Day of Catalonia (top tip: don’t try to get a taxi in the city centre during this time), Europe’s FX finest were discussing the most pressing issues their market is currently facing. It was unsurprising to find that global political instability was top of that list, with many of the event’s panel discussions focusing on how FX markets are being, or will be, impacted by unpredictable forces such as the US President’s ongoing trade war with China, European currency crises in Turkey and Italy, and turmoil in Latin American’s emerging markets. A markedly more compact conference than its equities counterpart in Paris, TradeTech FX nonetheless managed to pack in just as much discussion, analysis and insight into its two-day running time.
