What if a
student
has had a
concussion?
Any student who has had a concussion
should see a healthcare provider
knowledgeable about concussions for
an evaluation and care plan. Following
the concussion, students may display a
variety of symptoms that could make
schoolwork more challenging. Still, most
kids will recover completely within a few
days to a few weeks. They don’t need
an extended school absence and will
only miss a day or two of school if any at
all, even if they are not entirely back to
normal. Symptoms may last longer for
some. (See the 504 Plan information on
page 16 if the student needs long-term
support at school.)
