Connecting Students to Local Careers Career Technical Education (CTE) Solano County Office of Education is a partner to Solano County’s six school districts, serving approximately 64,000 students, and offering over fifty Career Technical Education (CTE ) pathways and career certifications. A few of the CTE opportunities for Solano County students include: Aeronautics & Aviation Agricultural Science Agricultural Mechanics Animal Science Biotechnology Business & Finance Workforce Development Work-Ready Certification Girls In Robotics Leadership Digital Media Design Engineering & Architecture ICT: Games & Simulation Kinesiology Medical Science & Technology Software & Systems Development SCOE partners with various local and state resources to assist students with intellectual and/or physical disabilities in developing work and life skills that fit each individual’s unique needs and abilities. Workforce development also includes student-driven microenterprises and work experience for students in businesses across Solano County. Solano County Office of Education’s Work-Ready Certificate program for students provides over twenty hours of work-related instruction and support. The program helps prepare students for the labor force, locate job opportunities, learn interview skills, perform mock interviews, develop a resume, and learn work ethic. Students completing the program are better prepared to earn and keep a job. Solano County Office of Education partners with UC Davis C-STEM (Computing- Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), Solano Community College, Genentech, and service organizations to host free C-STEM Girls in Robotics Leadership (GIRL) camps in Solano County. Numerous studies and surveys have noted that the C-STEM fields have remained predominantly male with low participation among women. GIRL camps are focused on motivating young women to learn computing and STEM concepts through a fun robotics and Arduino based curriculum. Camps spark interest and confidence in C-STEM that will open up opportunities that stay with campers throughout their lives. Solano Students are Skilled & Prepared We believe that a quality education and a strong public education system is critical to the social fabric and economic vitality of Solano County. Our six school districts offer students a broad range of career exploration and skill development opportunities. Solano K-14 Career Technical Education (CTE) pathway programs are relevant, engaging, and provide students with K-14 streamlined preparation to enter Solano Community College by successfully completing: 1) a K-14 CTE pathway and/or 2) high school to college course articulation agreements. CTE students receive a continuous firstclass education via robust CTE courses within industry-aligned pathways and certifications. Career exploration programs help prepare students to succeed in a global economy, and inspire them to become active and productive citizens in their communities.
