In today’s tech-driven world, infinite
means of communications exist. But
what happens when these networks are
threatened during a disaster?
“Managed chaos” is how Jason Sir-
ney, emergency manager for the City of
Sacramento Office of Emergency Ser-
vices, describes the operational response
during crises. Envision a command cen-
ter with phones ringing, news broadcasts
playing, social media streams updating
and representatives from various agen-
cies converging in one location.
Emergency operation centers lie at the
heart of communications during an emer-
gency. These designated headquarters
bring together government agencies and
organizations in a central location to gath-
er information and coordinate response.
