With so much interest in the Comrades Marathon, parking in and around the Finish precinct at the Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse will be at a premium. Here’ s what you need to know to find designated parking areas and make your day easier.
THE FINISH
PARKING ARRANGEMENTS
The Traffic Flow Management and Spectator Parking plan for the Comrades Marathon on Sunday 14 June is designed to make the best use of the available parking and access roads in the area of the Finish precinct in Pietermaritzburg. That said, supporters and spectators are urged to try get to the venue as early as possible in order to alleviate traffic congestion and secure parking near to the venue. All parking is on a first come, first served basis.
Drivers of vehicles are required to adhere to fenced off road closures. Please do not remove or break through fencing, as it will impact on the Comrades Marathon Race Route. Also take note that there will be Tow Away Zones in place, so do not leave your car on the side of the road or on the pavement. It will cost R950 to retrieve your impounded vehicle.
On race day, you can listen to East Coast Radio for live traffic and parking updates, and follow @ Comradesmarathon on social media for regular traffic updates.
With most supporters and spectators arriving in Pietermaritzburg on the N3 highway, either straight from the Start or later during the day after supporting their runners along the route, the New England Road and Ohrtmann Road off ramps off the N3 will be open and will feed traffic into designated race day parking areas at local schools or venues.
Via the New England Off-ramp:

1. St Charles College Parking
• Access via Harwin Road
• Secured, marshalled parking
• Pedestrian access to the Finish Venue
• Open from 07h00 – 20h00
• Cost: R50 – card only( no cash), payment at gate
2. Scottsville Primary School
• Access via Ridge Road, then into Milborrow Road
• Secured, marshalled parking
• Pedestrian access to the Finish Venue
• Open from 05h30 – 19h00
• Cost: R100 – cash only, payment at the gate
3. St Johns Diocesan School for Girls
• Access off New England Road, near to the off-ramp
• Secured parking
• Pedestrian access to the Finish Venue
• Open from 07h00 – 20h00
Via the Ohrtmann Road Off-ramp:
1. Woodburn Rugby Stadium
• From Orhtmann Road, access by turning right into Echo Road, left into Bulwer Road, and left into Boshoff Road – parking access on right hand side
• Secured, marshalled parking
• Pedestrian access to the Finish Venue
• Open from 07h00 – 20h00
• Cost: R50 – cash only, payment at the gate
3 BUS PARKING AT FINISH
All parking for accredited buses and shuttles is in the parking area on Woodhouse Road, alongside Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse.
• Absolutely no access to public, private or club vehicles.
• The only access to this parking area from the N3 is via the Ohrtmann Road off ramp, then turn right into Echo Road, left into Bulwer Road, left into Boshoff Road, and left into Woodhouse Road
• There are 2 x access points from this Bus parking into the Finish venue using ramps over the actual Scottsville Racecourse and into the Finish area
• Secured, marshalled parking from 17h00 to 20h00
• Pedestrian access to the Finish Venue
4 OTHER PARKING
Supporters and spectators can park their vehicles in public parking areas or in streets near to the Finish Precinct, at their own risk, but are requested to please adhere to the following rules and requests:
• Park legally and safely – you do not want your vehicle towed away
• Do not block roads, or the driveways and access points for local residents and businesses
• Do not leave valuables in your car
• Make sure you remember where you parked – a dropped pin on Google Maps is a great idea
