Compliance Insider® Issue 2 Sept–Nov 2012 | Page 4

From the Editor Stepping up The first edition of Compliance Insider® found its way into over 50 countries and we received amazing feedback and interest. Our focus for each edition of Compliance Insider® is to stick to some core themes. These are: producing articles and information that are short, practical and highly useful to our readers removing any “sales speak” from the material and just telling it how it is going further than just providing information on recent issues, by analysing them and providing practical direction, guidance and advice showcasing new initiatives that The Red Flag Group are working on and how they can assist you with your international compliance programmes. From time to time in Compliance Insider® we will focus on specific issues, where we look at a particular topic in detail; however, our overall focus will never change: the magazine has to be clear, concise, useful and effective to every reader. This edition features some recent changes brought about by the UK Bribery Act that drove our US clients to reconsider their global anti-corruption programmes and our UK clients to create them. In addition, the sanctions placed by the US companies dealing with Iranian interests has led many of our clients (particularly those in the oil and gas industries) to look at their business dealings and processes in working with companies in the Middle East. This has led to an uptick in enhanced due diligence on counterparties and suppliers. For our extractive clients (mining and gas), new laws around conflict minerals and ethical supply chains have meant that looking at source material has been a key. We hope you enjoy the read, and thanks for your continued support of Compliance Insider® and The Red Flag Group. Scott Lane Editor in Chief and CEO, The Red Flag Group 04
