I was looking for a Company, in Europe, for my Erasmus Internship and I found FTIAS. I’ve never heard about Malta before but after some research I thought it was the best destination for a student and the perfect place to practise my English. My internship lasted three months and at the end of it FTIAS offered me to stay working together with my crazy and friendly team. 2. Your experience at FTIAS? I was employed with FTIAS as a Junior Developer three years ago. It was my first job as a Developer, so the past years At an archery range, in Lija, with some of his frineds. have been very challenging but also very rewarding. Big thanks go to my colleagues, for their continuous support, and for making every day at the office an unforgettable one. Currently I’m also receiving training for my new role as Lead Developer and it´s a very exciting experience since I´ve never been in a middle management position and I have a lot to learn. 14 / Company Newsletter / Contributors to Success - Meet Guillermo Contributors to Success Meet Guillermo cont... 3. Describe your main responsibilities at FTIAS? My main responsibilities include developing and maintaining web applications within Webapps (our internal framework) and ftias.com (the Company’s website), giving support to staff members on the mentioned frameworks, together with tackling the most urgent tasks, to maintain and ensure the integrity of our web server. a) What do you enjoy the most? The best part of my job is that there’s always room to learn something new. Every day new technologies and utilities emerge and so one will be able to tackle the same problem in different ways. So research is continuously needed to keep up to date in software development. More than that I always challenge myself to improve my work and share my knowledge with my team. b) Most difficult aspect of your job? Sometimes I have to switch between a lot of different tasks and it’s very easy to lose the train of thought of the task I was working on, before I switched task. Also, it’s difficult for me to understand some terms that staff members use to describe their issues, since it’s hard to know everything about all the web applications we developed for FTIAS. 4. How do you imagine your life in five years’ time? I don’t even know what I’m going to eat tomorrow let alone to imagine myself in five years. Joking apart, in five years’ time, I see myself in a flying DeLorean . Guillermo, enjoying the majesty of a Golden Eagle, in a shelter for abandoned and injured animals. 15 / Company Newsletter / Contributors to Success - Meet Guillermo
