Jaguars celebrate the NFL ’ s 100th Anniversary

In commemoration of the NFL ’ s 100th anniversary , the league issued a challenge to its fans – inspire one million people to volunteer 100 minutes of their time to make a meaningful contribution to each team ’ s local community . Jaguars fans responded with gusto , volunteering more than 5.7 million minutes throughout the 2019 season .
The Jaguars ’ official Club Huddle was One Team . One Home ., a partnership with TIAA Bank that was first introduced in 2018 as a joint five-year , $ 2 million pledge to help build or repair 100 homes in Northeast Florida . The Jaguars rookie class tackled the first volunteer shift of the year in June , building the frame for a new house at the HabiJax warehouse . After that , hundreds of One Team . One Home . shifts were filled across various Habitat for Humanity affiliates including Jacksonville , St . Augustine , Clay County , Putnam County , Volusia Country , Nassau County and the Jacksonville Beaches .
Jaguars Huddle for 100 minutes took all shapes and sizes . In October , Jaguars players participated in a food sorting event at TIAA Bank Field in support of Feeding Northeast Florida , the community ’ s largest hunger-relief organization . DT Abry Jones , DE Dawuane Smoot and LB Najee Goode worked alongside volunteers from the Law Firm of Pajcic & Pajcic , Florida Blue and members of the Jaguars Women ’ s Association to organize citrus donations that were distributed to families in need in Jacksonville and the surrounding areas .
The work continued in November when more than 200 volunteers joined the entire Jaguars roster to pack 1,000 care packages to be sent to deployed servicemen and women during the holidays . The Jaguars partnered with local nonprofit St . Michael ’ s Soldiers to fill the boxes with needed and requested items including toiletries , snacks and personal items . The entire team also wrote 1,000 personal thank you cards to send inside the care packages .
In October , Jaguars Pro Bowl WR DJ Chark Jr . and LB Austin Calitro volunteered with HabiJax , participating in window installation and testing their skills with a hammer and a drill . They were working on the future home of LiWanda Burton , a mother of five and grandmother of one . A Mayo Clinic patient care technician , Burton had already fulfilled her 300 hours of sweat equity towards her new home . Since the start of the program in 2018 , One Team . One Home . volunteers and funding have helped make home ownership possible for 34 families across Northeast Florida .
