Lucille Tshanz was born in El Dorado , Kansas Jan . 12 , 1923 , to parents of James and Alice Wilcox . Lucille had one sister Louise .
Lucille graduated from Rosalie , Kansas then enlisted in the Coast Guard . “ I joined the Coast Guard because my Uncle was a Commander in the Coast Guard ,” said Lucille . She was stationed in New York City during her enlistment . Lucille returned to Cedar County after her enlistment in the Coast Guard , where her parents had relocated to .
Lucille married Walter Tschanz Feb . 1 , 1946 . The couple lived in Cedar County for awhile , then moved to Wheatridge , Colorado . Lucille and Walter adopted their son Russell Nov . 10 , 1958 . His parents told him the story many times . They planned to adopt a little girl and the doctor said , “ I need to show you something ” and the doctor placed Russel in his Dad ’ s arm and he couldn ’ t give him up .
Lucille worked for the Wheatridge School system as an administrative assistant in many different departments throughout her career , before she retired . In 1995 , Lucille moved to El Dorado Springs , with her mother , because her mother wanted to be close to her family .
