OUR MOTHER ’ S DAY TEA WAS FUN FOR ALL !

RESIDENT OF THE MONTH

Our resident spotlight is on Mr . Dwain Witt . He was born and raised on a farm in the Blackjack community in the northeast part of Cedar County , Missouri . There were three boys in his family and they all attended the elementary grades at Blackjack , followed by High School at El Dorado Springs . When he was a boy , he spent lots of time doing his chores ( taking care of cattle , pigs and chickens ), hunting , fishing and playing ball .
While in high school , Dwain met the love of his life , Bonnie ( who was from the Tiffin area ) and they were married during their Senior years at EHS . The couple had one son , Les and one daughter , Kim . Sadly , Bonnie passed away in February this year .
Dwain ' s first job after graduating from high school was at Witt Printing Co . A few years later , Dwain leased the Phillips 66 service station at the corner of 54 and 82 highways here in El Dorado Springs . His brother , Don , joined him at the gas station in 1973 , and later , they moved the business to where the Sonic is located today . In addition to selling fuel , they did service work on many types of vehicles .
Dwain followed in his dad , Elmer ' s footsteps in the fur trading business for many years . This hobby included hunting the game , processing the fur , and selling to other traders . Also , he enjoyed hunting squirrel , quail , pheasant , raccoon , and frogs in his younger years and running trotlines on both the Sac and Osage Rivers .
Playing and watching ballgames has been a lifelong interest for Dwain . He played baseball , basketball and football in school . His current favorite ball teams are the St . Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs .
When asked what he is grateful for , Mr . Witt said , “ That I was able to make a good living .” His words of wisdom for the younger generations is to always work hard , be faithful in your church , and be honest . Thank you , Mr . Witt , for being our Resident of the Month !
