Meet our Resident of the Month Meet our September resident of the month, Geraldine Spruell. Geraldine was born Aug. 23, 1929, about 5 miles northwest of Monegaw Springs in St. Clair County, Mo., to parents, Auther and Evelena Ridgway. Geraldine had two sisters and brothers. Her family had a 200 acre farm. The children attended the upper Monegaw School and later the Park School until eight grade. Geraldine worked on the family farm, help- ing her dad with the farm chores. They made their own butter, had plenty of eggs from their chickens, and even smoked their own pork at their smoke- house. Later, she married Clyde Spruell. Clyde was an over-the-road truck driver, and later he drove for the United States Postal Service with a route from Kan- sas City to Chicago. Geraldine and Clyde were married for 52 years and had six children, numerous grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Geraldine was very skilled in sewing, working many years as a sewing ma- chine operator, and she also worked at the shoe factory in El Dorado Springs. She lived in a suburb of Los Angeles, Calif., working as a cashier at different stores before retiring after 20 years. Geraldine has lived in Texas and traveled throughout the United States. Being a housewife, cooking, sewing, and help- ing out on the farm are some of her greatest memories. She remembers the time that her dad showed her how to harness and un-harness the horses, and then she helped plow their 200 acre farm without a tractor or any other machinery. Thank you Geraldine for sharing your story with the residents of Commu- nity Springs. Are you a caring individual who would like to assist in caring for the elderly? Community Springs Healthcare Facility has opportunities in its volunteer and nursing program. For more information, call administrator Chris Vickers today at 417-876-2531.
