Meet our
Resident of the Month
Mr. Leland Trussell is our Resi-
dent of the Month for Oct. 2017.
Leland was born on April 10, 1929,
to Hassel and Gladys Trussell in
southeast Arkansas, and was raised
in the rice fields learning the value
of hard work. After his father died,
Leland carried on the responsibili-
ties of the farm. He was the oldest
of three children, the only one sur-
viving.
Leland graduated high school in
DeWitt, Ark., and went to Bible college in Indiana, where he met a shy girl
named Mary Walker. He fell in love with her and treated her like a queen.
The couple were married for 57 years. The couple have three children, six
grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Leland became a Missionary and
spent 18 years in Bolivia, South America from 1955 - 1973, living in very dif-
ficult and primitive conditions. He traveled throughout the mountains and
highlands, many times on foot, preaching and teaching the Aymara Indians
the gospel. Leland contracted countless illnesses and encountered dangers,
even having his life threatened for preaching the gospel. He still speaks Span-
ish and some Aymara. Mr. and Mrs. Trussell’s children were born while they
were in Bolivia, and two of them returned there as missionaries with their
families for many years. Leland was a minister of senior adults at a local
church from 1995 - 2008, and taught a Sunday school class until 2012. He
would not hesitate to tell you that the greatest thing in his life was having a
part in seeing many people come to Christ.
While at Community Springs, he enjoys church services, singing along to
the hymns, watching the birds, squirrels, and rabbits. He plays horseshoes
along with other activities.
Thank you Leland for sharing your story and being our Resident of
the Month.
Are you a caring individual who would like to assist in caring for the elderly? Community
Springs Healthcare Facility has opportunities in its volunteer and nursing program.
