Bernita Thomas is our March
resident of the month!
Bernita was born Jan. 11, 1923, in
Johnson County, Mo., to William and
Ada Butler. She had four brothers and
two sisters. Bernita grew up in Knob
Noster, Mo., where she was baptized
in the Christian Church in 1936, and
graduated high school in 1942. After
graduating, she lived in Kansas City
and Independence, working for insur-
ance companies.
Bernita married her husband,
Robert Lee Thomas, May 3, 1947, and
the couple made their home in Jeri-
co Springs, Mo. They have one
daughter, Ruth, and two grand-
daughters, Lisa and Sarah. Robert
passed away in 1985.
Bernita enjoyed traveling and camping
with her husband and daughter in Kansas,
Oklahoma and Colorado, and was an
active member in her daughter’s school,
serving on the PTA and Campfire commit-
tees.
Bernita says she has lived a good life and
her advice for all of us is to “live day by day
and do your best.”
