Meet our Resident of the Month Ruth Roberts was born on Sept. 11, 1915, near the Cobb Community on the Sac Osage River near Roscoe, Mo., to Lewis Albert Roder and Ivy Irene Roder. Later, she and her family moved closer to Roscoe where Ruth attended Tower Grove and other ele- mentary schools. Ruth had five brothers and three sisters. Ruth helped with many chores including working in the garden. One year, she helped her Dad by stripping cane that made around 1,040 gallons of molasses. Ruth married her husband of 50 years, Claude Roberts, in Nevada, Mo., but lived most of her life around the Roscoe area. Claude was a mechanic by trade, but he had various jobs as well. The couple has six children, 24 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren. Ruth was a homemaker and enjoyed being at home with her children. She played pitch, checkers and other board games with them. Ruth shared that she once traveled to Colorado and camped out in their car. Later, she made a once-in-a-lifetime trip with her best friend to Florida and then a cruise. This is the trip she will always remember because it was the best. What does Ruth think is the secret to her longevity? Eating bread and pickles! While living at Community Springs, Ruth enjoys embroidery and visits from her family. Thank you Ruth for sharing your story and being our resident of the month. Are you a caring individual who would like to assist in caring for the elderly?
