Virginia was born May 1 to Raleigh and Pearl Smith in a small town in West Central Mo. As a child who grew up during the Depression, Virginia’s home was originally a box car from the old Kati Railroad Line. While growing up, her father was fortunate enough to have a job on the railroad, where he worked every other day and earned $1. At 12, Virginia’s baby brother was born. Throughout most of her childhood, Virginia and her family had lived all over Missouri. In June 1949, Virginia graduated from East High School. That July, Virginia married James Bowman. Virginia and James were blessed with five children. Sadly they lost their youngest daughter as an infant. Food, prizes and fun for every one! Virginia worked at the neighborhood store and filling station. She went on to work at Woolworth and a local dime store. Eventually, Virginia found her life’s calling as a Nurse’s Aide, where she went on to work at several local hospitals. Saturday, July 2 4—6 p.m. In 1960, James and Virginia moved their family to El Dorado Springs. Virginia began working at the Shoe Factory and Cedar County Memorial Hospital. After her retirement, she and her son worked together milking cows, hauling hay, and fixing fences. In her free time, Virginia enjoyed studying nutrition, physical therapy, vitamins and mineral supplement. Hope to see you there!
