Meet our
Resident of the Month
The Community Springs resident
for the month of July is Lloyd
“Skeeter” Whisler. He was born on
June 11, 1958, in Kansas City, Mo., to
Lloyd and Geraldine Whisler. Skeeter
has three sisters and one brother.
Growing up in the Kansas City area he
quit school after eighth grade because
“he knew more than his teacher.” He
played a little baseball, but his asthma
hampered most of these kinds of activi-
ties. He enjoyed the winters by sliding down big hills. At the young age of 7,
he raised rabbits to sell to other families and to markets. At one time he had
more than 700 rabbits.
Skeeter went to work for cable companies and ran underground cable for
phone services and did backhoe work. He also was a mechanic for many
years. His passion was racing cars. He built race cars (stock and street stock)
and raced them for more than 11 years, winning many races. Several notable
race car drivers including Dale Earnhardt, Kyle Petty and Kenny Wallace
raced in cars that Skeeter built.
Skeeter has lived in Texas and traveled in many states going to various
kinds of car races. One of his highlights was when he was in Alabama, racing
cars that he built. Skeeter’s wife, Virginia, works as a housekeeper at the local
hospital. He has five children, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In the past, Skeeter helped to build a float for Community Springs and it
had lights, music and was loaded with decorations.
While at Community Springs, Skeeter enjoys the activities and makes car-
nations of various colors for the other residents. Thank you Skeeter for shar-
ing your story and being our resident of the month.
Are you a caring individual who would like to assist in caring for the elderly?
Community Springs Healthcare Facility has opportunities in its volunteer and nursing program.
