Melba L . DeShazo was born on Aug . 15 , 1928 , in Cedar County to George and Beulah Reeves . She was the second eldest of eight children . Everyone worked together on the farm with gardening , crops and with the cattle .

Melba graduated from El Dorado Springs R-2 School , then met and married her husband of 68 years Frank DeShazo . The couple had two children and they adopted their grandson . They have four grandchildren and one greatgrandchild . In 1991 the family moved to Kansas , Frank retired from Merch Drug Co . in Lawrence , Kan ., and Melba worked as a secretary at the County Court House in Lawrence .

Some of Melba ’ s community involvement projects include the Quilting Club and Ladies Aide . She has always enjoyed making pies , jams and jellies for friends , family , and church members — some people referred to Melba as Mrs . Smucker ’ s !

Frank and Melba took a bus tour through several states , and enjoyed traveling to Branson . The highpoint in her life is when she was saved by the Lord .

Melba moved to Community Springs Healthcare Facility in June 2015 , after her husband passed away . She enjoys being involved in the activities and games at Community Springs every day .
