Meet our
Resident of the Month
Glenn Tuder was born in rural Cedar County
Oct. 11, 1922 to parents Orvis and Pearl (Bower)
Tuder. Glenn was raised on the family farm near
the Willaville area. His tasks or chores included
feeding the hogs and milking cows early in his
childhood years. Later, he drove the horses, plow-
ing the fields and plus harvesting the crops.
Glenn’s family ran a Sorghum mill, and sold mo-
lasses to friends and neighbors. He attended Pleas-
ant Ridge School completing eight grade. He
worked at Atkinsons chicken hatchery in El Dora-
do Springs, performing various duties including
hauling chickens, eggs, and doing incubator work.
In 1943, Glenn married Ila Bliss, and the marriage was 73 years strong.
Ila worked at the local shirt factory for a short while, but was mostly a
homemaker. The couple had two children, raising them on their farm.
Glenn served in the Army during the Battle of the Bulge. He toured in
France, Belgium and Germany. When Glenn returned to the states, he
worked at Dairy Concepts for 27 years, while doing carpentry work for a
local building contractor designing and making custom furniture for new
homes, and maintaining his 80 acre farm. He managed around 30 head of
cattle, worked hay fields, and did welding to fix broken equipment that was
needed for the farm.
Glenn and Ila traveled on bus tours to Niagara Falls and along the East
Coast. The couple has traveled to the Smokey Mountains in the fall, where
they enjoyed the changing colors of the leaves, and once a tour was 21 days
long. Glenn stated that, “this trip was a little to long to be away from
home.” Getting married to Ila was the highpoint in his life.
While at Community Springs, Glenn enjoys visiting with other residents,
family and friends. Thank you Glenn for sharing your story and being our
resident of the month.
