Resident Council:
Residents’ councils
are organized,
self-governing,
decision making
groups of long-term
care residents that
meet regularly to
voice their needs
and concerns and to
provide input for the
activities, policies,
and issues affecting
their lives within the
facility. Through a
resident council,
residents can
positively impact
their facility, making
it a reflection of their
preferences and
values.
Meet our
Resident of the Month
Meet our August resident of the
month, Orville Taylor. Orville was born
Oct. 4, 1927, in the Northwest corner of
El Dorado Springs, Mo., to Lester
McKinley Taylor and Edyth Louisa
Hana Taylor. Orville had four brothers
and one sister. His sister and one broth-
er died at a young age. Orville started
his first job at the age of 14 as a bell-
hop at the Park Hotel. Orville spent his
entire 12 years of schooling in El Dora-
do Springs, and graduated in May 1945.
He signed up to go into the Navy while
still in school and was able to join when
he became of age.
In 1948, Orville married the sweetheart of his life, Norma, who currently
resides at the Barone Center in Nevada, Mo. On June 5, 2017, they celebrated
their 69 th wedding anniversary in Nevada with family and friends. Congratula-
tions
Orville and Norma!
While in the Navy, Orville used his Ham Radio Operator’s experience on
board the USS Moale Destroyer. He returned to the states after his service with
the Navy, and joined the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in
Okinawa for quite some time. When his military service days ended, Orville
traveled the U.S. while in the trucking industry, hauling sawdust and other com-
modities that lasted for 42 years. He retired as a member of the Teamsters
Union in 1989.
Since being a resident at Community Springs, he has written detailed books
and remembrances of his life and has done countless hours of research, compil-
ing documents for his family’s genealogy. He tends to his garden, participates
in Bible study groups, and daily scheduled activities.
